Millennials Don’t Want to Grow Up

Laundry. Dinner. Bills. Work. Kids. Taxes. The seemingly endless list can consume your day turning free time into a distance memory. If we knew that becoming an adult had so many responsibilities, many of us may have opted to stay young. Since when did the trip to the grocery store require a strategically placed plan to electronically “clip” coupons, check Google Maps for traffic conditions, and a small loan to purchase meals for a family of four? Gone are the days of stress-free activities that allowed us to pass hours of time watching clouds pass overhead while listening to the Walkman… or are those days still here?

The nostalgic Walkman may have been replaced with Pandora or iHeartRadio, but it is still possible to unplug and enjoy the occasional free moment after the dishes are clean and the kids are asleep.

I dont want to grow upMillennials don’t want to grow up. They want to escape the grown-up stresses and return to the fun filled days of their youth.

Companies are attempting to provide that stress relief to millennials by offering brand related products such as adult coloring books. The women’s magazine, Vogue, has introduced an adult coloring book called, “Vogue Colors A to Z”. The coloring book allows adults (and kids too) 26 classic Vogue covers from their archives.

Even Justin Bieber posted a picture he colored on Instagram. The slightly NSFW picture allowed him to color and therefore relax for 30 minutes.

“Millennial nostalgia is of interest to businesses because millennials don’t care too much about the  price of the products that fuel their nostalgia” (What, We’re Adults?, 2015).

Don’t think for a moment that you are the only one longing for a more simple time though. A quick search on Twitter indicates that many share similar #grownupproblems. The hashtag is a sweepstakes offered by Huffy Bicycles for a chance to win a new bike and therefore another route to escape the pressures of adulthood.

Want to help your customers with their #grownupproblems? We can provide a colorful solution with two available CreativeSpark journals. Place an order for a customized rectangle or square journal that can include your brand related artwork. Imagine your customers concentrating and coloring for hours while associating your brand with relaxation and the nostalgia of a more simple time.
