Choosing pens, from the inside out!

Selecting a pen to carry your brand or logo is important work! You want YOUR pen to someone’s favorite pen.  There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a pen. The obvious of factors are color and style, but choosing the right ink styles can make a big impression. Research shows people keep a pen with them 73% of the time, it may as well be YOUR pen they love!

Let our superheroes steer you in the right direction! Here are some things to consider when choosing the right pen:

  • Material (metal, plastic, earth-friendly, usually driven by budget)
  • Style (can include retractable, twist action or cap style stick pens)
  • Grip (with or without)
  • Color (typically driven by your brand)
  • Speciality pens (Permanent, dry erase, highlighters, pens that prevent check washing, felt tip, etc.)
  • Writing Points (Fine for detailed writing, medium for average line width, or bold for the most vivid marking)

Most of these options are subjective or based on your brand. But consider choosing a pen from the inside, out! Let’s break down the options of  writing points.

Ball Pens

Ball pens are probably the most widely used variety of pens. They are quick drying, so there is less smearing then roller ball and gel inks, which for lefties, is an important factor to consider. They write with precise lines, and typically offer extended write life.  Ball pens come in fine, medium, and bold point sizes.

Roller Ball PensVESRblue_lg

Roller ball pens, a favorite among artists, have fluid ink that takes very little effort to make it flow. Because it’s fluid, they do have a longer drying time then ball point pens. To keep the ink from drying out, many roller ball pens are capped (vs. retractable).  With options of micro, fine, and bold tip pens, these pens provide bright, vibrant, rich color on the page.

Gel PensBWGBWBlime_lg

Gel pens combine the beauty of both worlds-qualities of ball pens and roller ball pens. Interestingly, in an idle state, the ink is thick, similar to a ball pens. Once you start writing though, the ball rolls and provides a fluid writing experience, like a roller ball pen. Available in fine and bold tips, these pens provide bright, vibrant, rich coloring on your page like a roller ball pen. If you are looking for something that can prevent check or document fraud, the Uni-Ball 207 is your guy! This pigment-based ink contains particles that form an indelible bond with the paper- it can’t be broken…ever. It is even endorsed by Frank Abagnale, master check washer turned respected authority on forgery, embezzlement, and secure documents. The movie Catch Me If You Can was based on Abagnale’s time as a criminal.
